Reginald Singlehurst was the son of Harriette Anne Singlehurst (nee Brodie) of Lynton, Christchurch Road, Sidcup, Kent, and the late Paul Robert Singlehurst.
 
He was born at Liverpool in 1882. His father was a native of Liverpool and his mother was born at Culross, Perthshire, Scotland. They were married at St.Helen's C.of E. Church, Sefton in 1878.
 
Reginald had five siblings; all of whom were born in Brazil; Percy Brodie (b 1880), Linda Hardell (b 1881), Robert (b 1884), Muriel Rhoda Dick (b 1885) and Frieda Catherine Jessie (b 1891).
 
In 1891 Robert and his mother and siblings were living at 3 Greenbank Terrace, Edinburgh.
 
His father died at Parnahiba, Brazil in 1898, leaving the equivalent of 340,000 (at current values) and his family returned to the UK.
 
In 1901 the Singlehurst family were living at 4 Sefton Drive, Toxteth Park. Reginald, aged eighteen, was an insurance clerk.
 
In 1911 his mother and two of his sisters were staying in a hotel at 105 and 106 Queens Gate, London.
 
Probate of his estate was obtained at London by his widowed mother on the 17th July 1919. His address was the Corner House, North Park, Eltham, Kent. His effects were valued at 11,023 16s 6d (530,000 at current values.)
 
His brother Robert Bruce Singlehurst also fell.
