Douglas Grant was born at Formby in 1895. He was the youngest son of George Grant of Rownalea, Liverpool Road, Formby and the late Jessie Ann (nee Jobson)
His parents were both born at Birkenhead and were married at Liverpool in 1888. Douglas had three brothers; George, Alexander Henry and John Leslie.
His mother died at Formby on the 18th January 1906, aged 39, and was buried at Altcar church.
His father, an insurance manager and broker, re-married in 1909 to Isabella McKandy (nee Simpson). With his second wife he had three children; William Simpson (b 1911), Margaret I (b 1912) and Alistair D (b 1916)
At the time of the 1911 census Douglas was living with his father, step-mother and siblings at Rownalea, Formby.
Probate of Douglas' estate was obtained at Liverpool on ther 23rd April 1918 by his father. His effects were valued at 207 15s 8d (12,000 at current values.)
