Hugh Dawe was born at Bootle in 1884. He was the son of John Dawe and Ellen (nee Ferrigan) of 16 Seaforth Street, Bootle.
 
He was killed in action in France on the 4th September 1918.
 
His brother, Vincent Dawe, served as a merchant seaman during the war [BT 351/1/34528] and died at Sierra Leone on the 29th October 1918.
 
The brothers are remembered on their parents grave (SD 1178) at Ford R.C. Cemetery.
