John Edmund Claude Whitelock was born at Aiskew, Yorkshire in 1895.
His father, Charles Morgan Whitelock was born at Camerton, Somerset and was a career soldier. His mother, Mary Maud Galloway, was born at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. They were married in 1884 in Canada as per army marriage records. Their two eldest children were born whilst their father was serving abroad; Mary Maude was born at Valletta, Malta in 1884 and Charles Edward at Alexandria, Egypt in 1888

Charles Morgan Whitelock was a Colour Sergeant with the Yorkshire Regiment in 1891 and 1901.
1911 Census - 44 Blair Street, Bootle - Parents Charles and Mary with children Veronica, John, Victoria and Mary. Also living with them was their married daughter, Agnes King, their son in law John King and grandson Charles King. Agnes and Charles were married at St.James' R.C. Church, Bootle, in 1910.
At the time of the 1911 census John Whitelock was an apprentice electrical engineer and his father Charles was an army pensioner and customs watcher. John's parents had been married 27 years with 9 children born and 6 still alive.
After the war John's family lived at 44 Blackburn Grove, Bootle.
