William John Curry was born in London in 1866, the son of John and Mary Ann Curry, of London. He married Edith Mary Price in June quarter 1893 at West Ham, Essex. He and his wife had two children but only one daughter, Lily Edith, survived childhood.
 
He died from disease whilst serving aboard H.M.S. Wyncot and was buried at sea. His widow, Mrs E Curry, was living at 26 Norton Street, Bootle, at the time of his death before moving to 78 Hornby Boulevard, Litherland, after the war.
