William Trampleasure was the son of the Rev Joseph Clare Trampleasure of Whitley Vicarage, Northwich, Cheshire, and the late Hannah Lucinda (nee Devenish).
 
His parents were married in Roscommon, Ireland in 1884 and William was born at Birkenhead on the 13th February 1885. His mother died in Cheshire in 1887, aged 28.
 
His father re-married at Hereford in 1890 to Annie Harriett A (nee Richards).
 
Reverend Trampleasure was Vicar at Kinnerton, Cheshire in 1901 and at Whitley, Cheshire in 1911. William was not at home with his family at the time of either census.
 
William's attestation papers can be seen at Library and Archives Canada. He was a farmer and was living at Mornington, Alberta when he enlisted at Calgary on the 16th October 1916. He was 5ft 4 inches tall, with a fresh complexion, blue eyes and dark brown hair. He was unmarried and his next of kin was his father of Whitley Vicarage.
