Edward Rhodes Pugh was born at South Yarra, Victoria, Australia in 1889. He was the son of Thomas Edward Pugh and Sarah Jessie (nee Rhodes).
 
His older sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Winifred Gertrude were both born at Egremont, Cheshire in 1881 and 1884.
 
By 1891 Edward's father had died and the Pugh family had returned to England.
 
In 1901 they were making their home at 10 Rossett Road, Great Crosby.
 
Edward was living at Zomba, Nyssaland (East Africa) when he died of Spanish Influenza at Zomba Hospital on the 2nd December 1918.
 
Probate of his estate was obtained at London on the 29th January 1919 by William Henry Rhodes, stevedore. His effects were valued at 1,714 4s 1d (82,000 at current values.)
