Daniel Cross was born at Halkyn, Flintshire, Wales in 1875. He was the son of William Cross and Sarah (nee Marriott).
 
By 1891 his father had died and his mother had re-married to Elias Jones.
 
Daniel was working as a porter on the Great Western Railways in 1901, by which time he had moved to 426 Beckwith Street, Birkenhead with his mother, step-father and siblings.
 
He married Mary Edwards in the Clun Registration District of Shropshire in 1902. Daniel and his wife had two children, Ernest Daniel (b 1903) and Florence Mary (b 1904) who were both born at Birkenhead.
 
At the time of the 1911 census Daniel was a cotton warehouseman and had moved with his family to 21 Nith Street, Kirkdale.
 
According to the St.Lawrence's C.of E. Church, Kirkdale Roll of Honour he served as a Private with the Royal Marine Light Infantry.  
 
He died at home on the 12th May 1920. His name is not included on the CWGC database.
